This rugged stretch of California coastline will have passed peak tourist season by October, allowing guests who visit during Columbus Day the opportunity to see the trails, beaches, and other attractions at cheaper prices and with less crowds, all for typically lower lodging prices. Temperatures in Big Sur are, on average, fairly moderate during October, ranging from the high 70s to mid 40s, depending on the day. In October there is exciting wildlife activity, including the spectacle of hundreds of monarch butterflies, viewable at at Andrew Molera State Park, migrating to their winter homes.
