Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has a history going back many decades, all the way to the 1920s. The unique name of this particular airport was chosen by airline boss J. Parker Van Zandt back in 1928. Van Zandt's explanation for the name was never heard, but PHX airport has gone on to become one of the leading airports for Arizona and the entire United States. It was actually the fourth airport to be built for the city of Phoenix and only had a single runway when it opened up.
