Because Cape Cod is a very popular tourist destination, it can be extremely crowded in the summer and room rates are at their highest. The best times to visit Cape Cod are the spring months of April and May, and the fall months of October and November. The crowds have left; the room rates go down; and the weather is pleasant enough to enjoy many different kinds of outdoor activities. The least number of visitors and the lowest room rates occur during the winter season, but it can be a little too cold for visitors. In addition, many businesses close early or close down completely during the winter.

January is a gorgeous yet chilly time of the year in Cape Cod with the average high temperature at 37°F (3°C) and the average low temperature at 23°F (-5°C). It’s the off season at Cape Cod due to the cold climate, so it’s a great time to enjoy discounted rates.

In February, the coldest month of the year, the average high and low temperatures hold steady at 37°F (3°C) and 23°F (-5°C) respectively.

March gets an average rainfall of 4 inches (103 mm) as Spring comes to Cape Cod. The high temperature average rises to 44°F (7°C). The low temperature also increases to 29°F (-2°C).

Cape Cod Weather in April: Average low temperatures in April increase by nearly 10 degrees but still remains quite chilly at 37°F (3°C). Meanwhile, the average high temperatures reflect the gorgeous spring climate at 52°F (11°C).

In May, the precipitation levels decrease compared to the last few months with about 3 inches (76 mm) of rainfall. The climate warms further, increasing to 62°F (17°C) for the average high temperature and 48°F (9°C) for the average low temperature.

June sees big temperature increases for both average high and average low temperatures, which range between 72°F (22°C) and 56°F (13°C).

In July, the hottest and driest month of the year, the average high temperature shoots up to 79°F (26°C). The rainfall measures in at 3 inches (70 mm). Meanwhile, the average low temperature is 63°F (17°C).

Cape Cod Weather in August: Summer continues in August, however, the climate does cool slightly. High temperature decrease by a couple of degrees to 77°F (25°C) while the low temperature drops by a single degree to 62°F (17°C).

September sees quite a bit of rain with precipitation averages at 4 inches (94 mm). The average high temperature decreases significantly to 70°F (21°C) while the average low temperature sinks to 55°F (13°C).

In October, the downward trend in temperatures persist as fall goes into full swing at Cape Cod. The high temperatures decrease by 10 degrees to 60°F (16°C) while the average low temperature decreases by the same amount to 45°F (7°C).

November sees the most rainfall annually with 4 inches (111 mm) for the precipitation average. The average low temperatures and average high temperatures range between 38°F (3°C) and 51°F (10°C).

Cape Cod Weather in December: There’s no doubt that winter has descended upon Cape Cod in December with the average high temperature dropping to 43°F (6°C) and the average low temperature sinking to 28°F (-2°C).

If your main priority on your trip to Cape Cod is to hit the beach and spend the whole lounging at the shore, plan your visit between July and August for the best weather and water conditions in the year. However, if a quiet visit to Cape Cod is more your style, come in May, June, September or October when the shoulder season hits and there are significantly fewer tourists around.
