There is also the Municipal Airport on the edge of Belize City: this is used for domestic flights from other cities within Belize. If you are already in Belize, there are buses that arrive at Belize City’s main bus terminal on West Collet Canal Street: it is an easy walk from there to downtown, but take a taxi after dark. Belize City, like the country, is small, so it is a little surprising to find out that it has quite a large variety of places to eat. Visitors can enjoy fresh seafood and Belizean cuisine, but there are also ethnic restaurants such as Chinese, Indian, Lebanese, and other international cuisine. When cruise ships arrive at Belize City, be prepared: restaurants become crowded especially at lunch time. Nerie’s serves Belizean cuisine and is quite popular with the locals. Some of the dishes include lobster, escabeche soup with chicken, lime, and onions, chirmole with chicken and a chili-chocolate sauce, and rice and beans.

Not many people visit Belize City to shop, but walking around you are likely to stumble on some interesting things to buy. There are handicrafts that represent the various ethnic groups that make up Belize. Coral and shells are handcrafted into jewelry by the Creole population that lives along the coastal area. They also make hand-carved wooden products that reflect their maritime tradition, things like dolphins, ships, and turtles. Inland, the Belizean Mayan population handcrafts replicas of ancient petroglyphs while the Garifuna people living in southern coastal villages are known for their small dolls.
