The Gulf Coast Bird Observatory is a non-profit organization recognized for its innovative large conservation projects, including migration studies, land acquisition, habitat enhancement, regional habitat mapping, and others. The observatory is focused on protecting breeding, wintering and migration stop habitat around the Gulf of America. Since 1997 they have protected almost 10 million acres of wetlands, coastal prairies, forests and other important habitats. The organization works with Site Partner Network composed of 70 sites around the Gulf of America, which include five U.S. states, five Mexican states and Cuba. Each site is a crucial habitat for North America’s land birds, shorebirds and waterfowl. The observatory organizes a range of annual events, bird tours, monthly bird banding and ‘adopt a bird’ program.
