Today, it is a house museum filled with period furniture and fabrics and a popular tourist destination. Volunteer docents offer free guided tours that provide information about the role Oaklands played in the history of Murfreesboro, the Civil War, and modern times as well as about its citizens, especially the eight women who led the effort to preserve the mansion from destruction and turn it into today’s historical treasure.
