Palmetto Brewing Co. is the oldest brewery in South Carolina since Prohibition. They strive to craft beers that pair well with food and conversation with friends. There are 11 beers on tap each with a fun name. Just some include Don’t Harsh My Mellow (an American pale ale), Peach of Mind Peach Grisette, Brassy Blonde, and Peanut Butter Jelly Time (an American brown ale). You can enjoy any brew as eight or 16 ounces or in a 32- or 64-ounce growler. The taproom regularly hosts events and is open on Tuesdays to Thursdays from 4 pm to 10 pm, on Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 10 pm, and on Sundays from noon to 8 pm. Palmetto Brewing Co. has concerts at least once a month, frequently weekly or even several times in a weekend. They also regularly have food trucks outside so you can get something to eat with your drink.

2. New South Brewing

New South Brewing is a microbrewery in the center of Myrtle Beach that has been in operation since 1998. Over the years, they have continued to supply those in the area with flavorful and fresh lagers and ales. The brewery prides themselves on ensuring each beer is high quality, whether it is in a can or comes from the draft. The regular beers at New South Brewing include a lager, a white ale, an IPA, and a nut brown ale. In the winter, they tend to offer Dark Star Porter, a rich black ale with a hop finish and sweet yet roasty malt flavor. They also have a seasonal Oktoberfest beer in the fall with a crisp German hoppy feel and malty, sweet smoothness. There are also typically unique specialties on tap when you stop by the tasting room.

3. Carolina Bauernhaus

Carolina Bauernhaus is both a farmhouse brewery and a winery with award-winning handcrafted ales, meads, and ciders. They use local seasonal ingredients in the process of handcrafting the cider and beer in small batches, showcasing what the region has to offer. The taproom is open every day of the week with extended hours on weekends. This brewery does not offer a standard beer lineup as this lets them make use of seasonal ingredients like local yeasts and seasonal fruits, as well as the chance to get creative. Some of the brews you might find include 18 Mile Red (an American sour ale), Feral Barrel Raspberry (a dark wild ale), FRIPA (a farmhouse IPA), July Prince (a sour ale), Kuningilin (a golden sour ale), and WIPA (an American wild ale).

4. COAST Brewing Company

COAST Brewing Company is family owned, making and serving craft beers on a former Navy base. They always use local, organic ingredients and put the environment first in as many of their decisions as possible. So customers know exactly what they are getting, all beers have their ingredients listed, including notes for which ingredients are organic. This brewery’s offerings include Boy King (an Imperial India Pale Ale), Hop Art (an India pale ale), Dead Arm (an American pale ale), Kolsch, Blackbeerd (an Imperial Stout), Rye Knot (an American brown ale), and seasonal brews like Oktoberfest, Single Hop, Shreddin’ Wheat, Event Horizon, Carnie Fire, and Saison du Fus. The tasting room is only open three days a week, so plan accordingly. On Thursdays and Fridays, you can visit from 4 pm to 7 pm or on Saturdays, you can head over between 12 pm and 5 pm. If you visit, keep in mind that this is a functional brewery and the taproom space is not fully separate. You can also buy their brews in cans or bottles to enjoy during the week. 5. Cooper River Brewing Company

Cooper River Brewing Company was founded in November 2015 and is in a full renovation of a 7,500-square-foot warehouse. The brewing company’s head brewer, Mark Fesche, is a graduate of Seibel Institute with more than 20 years of experience as a head brewer, ensuring delicious and unique beers. You can find a range of beers, including a stout, golden ale, orange-infused blonde ale, watermelon wheat, ESB, summer IPA, West Coast IPA, a porter (nitro), and the inaugural IPA. The tasting room includes a spacious outdoor patio as well as an indoor space with air conditioning plus plenty of room for comfort and relaxation. While you sip your beer, look through the large windows at the brewery portion so you can see how your favorite beverage is made. This brewery also regularly hosts special events, including those with local organizations.

6. Freehouse Brewery

Freehouse Brewery serves handmade beers that feature organic ingredients with inspiration from the natural setting of the brewery along the Ashley River. They serve a range of beers, including the Ashley Farmhouse Ale, Battery Brown Ale, Folly’s Pride, Green Door IPA, Hoodoo Imperial Stout, Morning Glory – Imperial Organic Coffee Stout, Sourlina Peche, Blueberry Peche Sourlina, Huila Davila Imperial Colombian Coffee Stout, the MULLET, Imperial Farmhouse Ale, Funky Farmhouse Ale, Little Nug, Foxtrot, Pink Squirt Saison, and Southern Blaze Saison. At any moment, check the Freehouse Brewery website to see which brews are currently on tap. You can visit the brewery any day of the week except Sundays and Mondays. On Tuesdays through Fridays, it opens from 3 pm to 8 pm and Saturday’s hours are from 1 pm to 8 pm. The tasting room includes both indoor and outdoor areas, including a spacious deck with amazing views of nature.
