Monahans Sandhills State Park stretches for 3,840 acres throughout Texas' southern Llano Estacado, located near the city of Monahans. The park is known for its gorgeous sand dune ecosystem, which showcases dunes stretching up to 70 feet in the air. The dunes are believed to have formed throughout the Late Pleistocene Era, approximately 16,000 years ago. Unique dune formations include parabolic, wind-shadow, coppice, Barchan, and Akle types of dunes. Visitors can enjoy a plethora of unusual outdoor recreational opportunities at the park throughout the year, including sand surfing, sandboarding, sand football, and sand tobogganing. Native flora and fauna are also on display, including shinoak climax shrub trees and Sandhills coyotes.
