This unassuming museum and exhibition center is housed in what is believed to be the earliest homestead in East Hampton. Originally the home of early settler John Lion Gardiner, the mill cottage offers an interesting glimpse into the town’s early days, showcasing authentic colonial architecture through its carefully restored saltbox design and exterior. Inside, visitors can find art exhibits focusing on early art colonies and landscape paintings, many of which originate from the 19th century. Surrounded by lush greenery and scenic views of the nearby windmill, the cottage offers a serene yet educational experience for everyone from the art lover to the history enthusiast.
