Race Point Beach in Provincetown is a wonderful wide sandy beach around the Coast Guard station and the point. It is part of the Cape Cod National Seashore. The beach is lined with massive dunes, and the Province Lands Bike Trail starts at the beach leading to Herring Cove beach. The beach has quite rough waves, perfect for surfing but not so pleasant for swimming. Surfing is allowed outside the guarded area. There are parts of the beach that are more protected and calmer, and swimming is easier in these areas.
The views from Race Point Beach are beautiful – there are often sailboats gliding across the water in the distance. As in other Cape Cod National Seashore beaches, dogs are allowed on a leash in the areas not protected by lifeguards.
