Since 2007, Oyster River Winegrowers have been creating natural, low-intervention wines and ciders from fruit they grow themselves on the farm. All their products are organically grown, and the result is a truly delicious product. During the summer, guests are welcome to visit Oyster River Winegrowers, where the barn becomes a happy and lovely gathering place for friends and families, whether they are locals or tourists. At Oyster River Winegrowers, some of the most popular products include Carbonic Nation, a red and white blend with just a hint of natural carbonation achieved during the fermentation process, or Morphos, a live wine that continues to ferment once it’s in the bottle. Also on offer are their hard ciders, which range from dry to sweet.

2. Anthony Lee's Winery

Anthony Lee's Winery makes creative fruit wines from fruits other than grapes. The products at Anthony Lee’s Wines include wine made from apples, cranberries, pears, raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries, as well as unique mixtures of those fruits and more. Their tasting room in Dexter, Maine, is open from Thursday through Saturday from 11am until 6pm, and on Sundays from 12pm to 5pm. They are closed on Monday through Wednesday, but if you call ahead they are generally happy to accommodate other tastings and groups by appointment.

3. Bar Harbor Cellars

When visiting Bar Harbor or the surrounding area, Bar Harbor Cellars is a must-see on the itinerary. With a beautiful little tasting room befitting the beauty of Bar Harbor itself, visitors can try six wines for $6. Winery staff will not only pour drinks but also educate their visitors on the process of winemaking for each one, and at the end of the tasting, guests will also have the opportunity to sample a hard apple cider made with local Maine apples. Wines at Bar Harbor Cellars include classic varieties from European and Californian grapes, as well as a list of specialty wines made from Maine blueberries and local apples. They also produce sweet ice wine.

4. Blue Lobster Wine Company

This Portland, Maine wine company combines the casual atmosphere of brewery culture with the high class taste of great wine. The delicious wines made at Blue Lobster Wine Company bear the distinction of not being sold in bottles or boxes like most wines, but in cans and kegs like beer. Blue lobster does this because cans are more sustainable for the environment than bottles, and are much easier to carry for pool parties, camping trips, or out on a boat for a day of fishing. In their tasting room, a fun and relaxed place that again evokes the standard laid back ambience of a modern craft brewery, guests can try wine, wine cocktails, and buy products to take home.

5. Boothby's Orchard and Winery

Boothby's Orchard and Winery has been growing New England apples for a long time, with a farm stand and a product that is well known throughout the region. This family farm once had a much wider scope of business,including a dairy farm, but when the owners decided to shut down the dairy in 2001, they realized that the empty barn would serve as a perfect space for winemaking. Their products include Maine Marquette, a red wine grown from estate grapes and aged in oak barrels, as well as a number of apple wines made from Boothby’s Orchard apples, including the Orchard White, which is drinkable and slightly sweet, and the smoky Honeycrisp White.

6. Cellardoor Winery
Sample award-winning wines and admire stunning vineyard scenery.
Cellardoor Winery is proud to be the creator of several award winning wines from the 2019 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. In particular, their Buoy white wine, Chardonnay, Ned Said Red, and Perfect Stranger all won awards for excellence. But believe it or not, there’s loads more to this lovely Maine winery, set in the hills and forests of Lincolnville in a spacious and beautiful 200 year old barn that overlooks the rows of grapevines waiting to be turned into wine. Winery tours and tastings are offered during the warmer months starting in April. Reservations are not required for visitors who wish to do a tasting, but the winery appreciates a call ahead reservation for groups larger than 6 people.

7. Dragonfly Farm & Winery

Dragonfly Farm & Winery is a small, family owned and operated vineyard. The farm produces not only wine but also maple syrup, which can be purchased in their tasting room along with a bottle of wine. The winery was conceived from a love affair with German Riesling, and as a result most of the grapes grown on the property and white wines made by Dragonfly are hybrids and types of that Riesling grape. The red wines at Dragonfly tend to be French varietals, and they also offer fruit wines in the typical Maine style, using local fruits like Maine Blueberries, plums, blackberries, and raspberries. Dragonfly Farm and Winery’s gift shop is open Thursday to Saturday from 10am until 6pm, where visitors can taste and purchase wine, maple syrup, and other products.
