Aubrey Vineyards offers the Napa-style wines of California within the “Heart of the Midwest.” The vineyard got its start in 2010 when the owners realized after their trip to Napa that their nearly two hundred acres of land in Overland Park could be used for growing grapes, making wines, and hosting events. Visitors can stop by the tasting room at Aubrey Vineyards to purchase bottles of wine and sample free wine tastings. The wine tasting experience is designed for everyone to be able to have an enjoyable experience, from novice wine drinkers to more experienced wine enthusiasts.

Barley Bus Tours was formed by Jake Morgan and Todd Abrams, two lifelong friends and native residents of Kansas City. Their knowledge and years of experience work together to provide locals and visitors alike with insightful tours highlighting the history of Kansas City, as well as an appreciation of the distilleries, wineries, and breweries around the city. Tours are organized as small group tours with a maximum of fourteen guests in order to provide the best experience in getting to know the city’s award-winning distilleries, breweries, and wineries. Barley Bus Tours also offers private tours with a much larger guest capacity.

The Belvoir Winery and Inn, while not technically in the state of Kansas, is located close enough to Kansas, situated just outside of Kansas City. The Belvoir Winery offers free tastings of each one of the wines it produces, wine the feature grapes grown locally in Missouri, offering a taste of what the state of Missouri has to offer in terms of vineyards. The winery offers whites, reds, and specialty wines, such as sweet rosé and dessert wine. The Inn at the Belvoir Winery is made up of eight guest suites, as well as a spacious bridal suite.

The Bourgmont Winery can be found just thirty-five minutes away from the downtown area of Kansas City and offers both an event venue and tasting room in the state’s South Johnson County. The wine produced by Bourgmont is all planted and sourced locally. The goal of the winery is to bring the quality of the Napa Valley to the heartland of America. The vineyard spans more than nine acres and contains ten grape varieties. White wines produced by the Bourgmont Winery include Cayuga, Frontenac Gris, Seyval, and Riesling, while red wines include Norton, Crimson Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot.

Wineries for a First Date

Greg and Charlee Davenport, owners of the Davenport Orchards & Winery first began making wine commercially in August of 1997. Their intention is to produce good wine from fruit grown in Kansas, with a minimal amount of intervention, in order to let the wine express itself freely. Since the wines at the Davenport Winery are made fresh from the Kansas grown grapes and other fruit, the availability of specific wines can vary. Sweet fruit wines produced at the Davenport Orchards and Winery include rhubarb, Poire made from pears, Peche made from peaches, blackberry, and apple.

The Isinglass Estate encompasses almost six hundred acres of fields, lakes, trails, forests, and vines, welcoming visitors to a little piece of vineyard paradise. There is something for almost everyone at the estate, whether guests love wine, berry picking, fishing, trail running, private events, stunning views, horses, or just relaxing. The Isinglass Estate Winery is also a family-friendly winery and offers an array of lawn games, Jenga, giant chess, and much more. The GastroPub Trolley serves a variety of food to go along with the wine, such as appetizers, flatbread pizza, and platters with fruit, vegetables, and cheese.

The Jefferson Hill Vineyard & Guest House is a veteran and family owned and operated Kansas farm, winery, registered Agritourism business, and bed and breakfast. Nestled within the rolling hills in northeastern Kansas on top of a glacial moraine hill, the winery makes wines from grapes grown on the estate. The Jefferson Hill Vineyard and Guest House offers wine tastings on the weekends from noon until 6:00pm, tours of the vineyard by appointment, overnight accommodations, and dining by reservation at the Café de Vine. The entertainment room and lodging are on the second floor of the winery.

The Jowler Creek Winery is situated about thirty minutes away to the north from downtown Kansas City, and around twenty minutes to the south from St. Josephy, Missouri. The local, award-winning wines are sold by the bottle and by glass, along with an assortment of locally-produced meats, freshly baked bread, and gourmet cheeses that pair well with the wines produced at Jowler Creek. Visitors are invited to relax with a glass of wine in the distinctive tasting room or the beautiful wine garden. Jowler Creek Winery is open Wednesday through Sunday with no reservations needed for groups of eight or less.

The KC Wine Co is a winery and vineyard that have become very popular as a venue for special events, particularly for weddings. Tours of the vineyard can be arranged, covering seven acres of grape vines located in the heart of Kansas’ Johnson County. The winery showcases handcrafted wines made with “MidWest Pride.” Guests are welcome to come by for a tasting of the wines, as the KC Wine Co. is open Fridays from 3:00pm until 8:00pm, as well as on Saturdays and Sundays from noon until 6:00pm. No pets or outside food are allowed on the grounds.

The Pirtle Winery has been a family operation since the year 1978 and makes high quality wines with a great amount of individuality and character. The winery is a popular stop for people visiting the historic town of Weston, Missouri and offers a one-of-a-kind escape from daily life. Complimentary wine tastings are offered to small groups inside of the tasting room, large groups can call ahead for a tasting in the downstairs cellar. Visitors can also sit and have a glass of wine in the cellar, back patio, or outdoor wine garden. Pirtle Winery is also dog and kid-friendly.
