Historic Mahaffie House was once regularly frequented by travelers along the Oregon and California Trails, who were making their way west from Missouri in the 1860’s. If these walls could speak, what stories they could tell. The house has been turned into a museum which is surrounded by 40 acres of land where Civil War Battle enactments are regularly staged. The museum celebrates Olathe’s rural roots and incorporates a heritage agricultural barn complete with animals, stagecoaches and agricultural implements. Stagecoach rides are available during the summer season and visitors can see blacksmiths in action. Regular historic events take place from time to time.
