The Freemount Lutheran Church is the oldest public building still standing in McPherson County in its original location, as well as the first congregation to organize in the Smoky Valley region of Kansas. The congregation of Freemount Lutheran Church, which consists of Swedish settlers, first gathered on June 12 of 1969. The “Old Stone Church” used since 1870 still stands today, outlasting a number of other church structures. While another church facility has been built, Sunday services are still held in the historic church. Visitors are welcome at the church, however, tours are available only by appointment.
