The origins of the Bethany Lutheran Church date back to August 19th of 1869 when a small gathering of Swedish immigrants took place to fill the need of their own church just outside of the town of Lindsborg, Kansas. This church was originally known as the Swedish Evangelical Bethany Church, later renamed Bethany Lutheran Church. From its small start, the church congregation continued to grow and it was decided that they needed to build a new church in Lindsborg in 1874. The church structure resembles that of cathedrals found in southern Sweden, with the central part constructed of Native Dakota sandstone.
