New Mexico is fast becoming a name on the craft brewery scene and producing a variety of craft beers that are increasingly winning awards at festivals and competitions around the country. The state is becoming home to a variety of nano, micro, and microbreweries that are whipping up seasonal and special production beers.
Santa Fe Brewing Company
Established in 1988, Santa Fe Brewing Company is New Mexico's oldest and largest brewery. Santa Fe Brewing Company focuses on making quality craft beer with a solid line-up of core and seasonal beers, including favorites such as Chicken Killer Barley Wine and Happy Camper IPA that are distributed in 10 states. Santa Fe Brewing also pushes the boundaries of craft with their sour and barrel-aging programs, including the Los Innovadores Series and Ever-Changing Series, which can be sampled in the brewery’s tasting room. Other award-winning beers include the Black IPA, the Kriek Sour Ale, and Imperial Java Stout, and the Chocolate Trail: Adobe Igloo and the classic Winter Warmer.

Spotted Dog Brewery
Founded by Jerry Grandle in 2014 after 15 years of experimenting with historical beer recipes, and brewing in his wife's kitchen, the Spotted Dog Brewery is a local brewery in Mesilla that produces a range of deliciously handcrafted crews. Named for the family's bluetick hound, Ryleigh, the Spotted Dog Brewery is proud to be Mesilla's only microbrewery and offers a range of brews to taste and purchase, as well as a full-service menu of chef-prepared food which is available in the brewery’s taproom. Canteen Brewhouse
The Canteen Brewhouse, formerly known as the Il Vicino Brewing Company, is an American craft brewery in Albuquerque that features a tap room restaurant with outdoor seating and offers handcrafted brews, fine food, and live entertainment. Founded in 1994 as the Il Vicino Brewing Company and initially housed in the Il Vicino Wood Oven Pizza restaurant in Nob Hill, Albuquerque, the brewery was established to hand-crafted beers to the chain of wood-oven pizza restaurants. After growing beyond expectations and producing award-winning beers, the I.V.B. Canteen taproom was opened in Albuquerque’s Brewery District in 2011, and they are creating the same award-winning beers today. Kilt Check Brewing Company
Kilt Check Brewing Company, (formerly Drafty Kilt Brewing Company) is a locally-owned, and family-operated brewery that was opened by award-winning brewer Mike Campbell in 2017 and has conjured up several tasty brews ever since. Founded by Brian Langwell, Left Turn Distilling is a local distillery in Albuquerque that specializes in high-quality craft distilled spirits. Lizard Tail Brewing
Founded in 2014, Lizard Tail Brewing is a local micro-brewery that focuses on producing a range of quality craft beers using traditional brewing techniques with an emphasis on distinct flavors. Co-owned by Dan Berry and Kenneth Rhoads, Lizard Tail Brewing grew from a home-brewing business to a fully-fledged brewery and produces 11 year-round beers with reptile-themed names such as Black Bearded Oatmeal Stout and Whiptail White. Milton's Brewing
Milton's Brewing opened their doors in 2016 near the heart of downtown Carlsbad and features a working brewery and modern taproom that boasts both indoor and outdoor seating for year-round. Milton's Brewing creates small batches of beer that encompass local culture and flavor, and are available to sample, and in flights, pints, and growlers-to-go. Milton's Brewing produces four year-round beers, including the Red Stapler American Red Ale, an English Pale Ale called Strongjaw, the Hoprunner Hefeweizen, a traditional German-style wheat beer, and Bellydragger, an American Brown Ale. Sidetrack Brewing Company is a small locally owned and operated brewery and taproom just south of downtown Albuquerque with a focus on producing a variety of high-quality craft beers and serving it in a friendly neighborhood pub atmosphere. Located in Moriarty just outside Albuquerque, Sierra Blanca Brewery Company is a great brewery with two brands, namely the Sierra Blanca and the Rio Grande. Established in 1996 by Rich and Suzanne Weber in Carrizozo New Mexico, business growth saw relocation to Moriarty, New Mexico in 2007. Truth or Consequences Brewing Company
Truth or Consequences Brewing Company is a destination brewery in the historic hot springs spa district of downtown Truth or Consequences that produces handcrafted ales and lagers as well as a variety of beers and wines from other New Mexico producers. Abbey Brewing Company
Abbey Brewing Company is a locally owned and operated craft brewery located on the grounds of the Monastery of Christ in the Desert, north of Abiquiu. Abbey Brewing Company follows the 1,500-year-old-tradition of monastic brewing in Europe to brew their beers in a variety of contemporary styles. The brewery focuses on the development of new styles of beer and limited commercial production of small draft batches on a 20-barrel brewing system with bottle and draft packaging happening at the brewery in Moriarty. Nestled within the private living space of the monastic community, the brewery is closed to visitors, however, all of the beers brewed and packaged are available at Bode's General Store in Abiquiu, and available at fine restaurants across New Mexico.
