Standing between Wanaka and Glendhu Bay, Roy’s Peak is a 5177-foot mountain just outside of Wanaka that boasts panoramic views of Lake Wanaka and Mt Aspiring from its towering peak. The best way to reach the summit and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes is via the 10-mile Roy’s Peak track, which zigzags steeply up the side of the mountain. The trail meanders across diverse terrain, ranging from tussock grasslands to alpine scrub near the summit. The trail closes in October and November during the lambing season.
