Mou Waho Island is one of several islands in Lake Wanaka and a popular spot for nature and wildlife enthusiasts. Meaning ‘Outer Island,’ Mou Waho Island is one of four pest-free nature reserves in the lake and is home to fascinating geographical features and a diverse array of fauna and flora. The island can only be accessed by boat and can be explored on several forested tracks that wind around the island. Fascinating wildlife that calls the island home includes Southern Alps geckos, native Bellbirds, and for the rare and flightless Buff Weka.
