The gorgeous forest is home to sagebrush steppe, alpine tundra, and spruce-fir forest habitats, attracting over one million annual visitors for outdoor recreational opportunities on its 1,100 lakes and 3,500 miles of riverfront. Over 81 campgrounds are offered throughout the forest, many of which offer pet-friendly sites and overnight accommodations. Campgrounds are located within the forest's Fairfield, Ketchum, and Minidoka Districts and designated national recreation area. Backcountry campground areas are also accessible via permit from designated hiking and horseback riding trails, offering primitive campsites and rental yurts.
