In the first century AD, when the presence of the Roman Empire in England was still very young, the Romans began construction in Bath on a temple. The settlement which grew around it, known as Aquae Sulis, grew into what is now an iconic part of the city: the Roman Baths. If there’s only one major attraction you visit in Bath, the Roman Baths should probably be it. The baths are incredibly well preserved, with the original pavement walkways, the remains of the temple, and a small museum full of artifacts like a bronze sculpture of the head of Minerva.
