Designed and built by Thomas Jefferson, Monticello is a former tobacco plantation that was the primary residence of the third President of the United States. Jefferson began working on the home when he was only 26 years old and continued to work on the structure until he passed away in 1826.

Jefferson’s burial place is on the grounds in an area now known as the Monticello Cemetery. You can choose from a number of tours of the house and grounds, including a family-friendly tour, a sunset tour, and a special behind the scenes tour.
