Located in the Riverside Park on the banks of the Susquehanna River, The Harrisburg Holocaust Monument exists to ensure that the 6 million victims of the Holocaust will never be forgotten. The monument was erected by a group of local Harrisburg Holocaust survivors and was dedicated in 1994. The monument comprises several elements which relate to Judaism and the Holocaust including an outer shell which represents barbed wire and the strong inner core which represents the strength of the Jewish people and all the tribulations they have had to endure. The monument is the site of the annual Harrisburg Jewish community’s Yom Hashoah observance.
