The Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site was the site of a historic forced desegregation in 1957, paving the way for equal opportunities for all during the Civil Rights Movement. The historic school first opened in 1927 and in those days it only accepted white scholars. When the Little Rock Nine tried to enroll in the school in 1957 such violence erupted that the army and air force were called in to assist. Today visitors are invited to come and join a guided tour of the school to learn more about the Little Rock Nine and how their bravery and their hard-fought integration into the school helped to shape the future of education for all races.
