Recently opened in January of 2022, Moncus Park was born out of a movement to save the property formerly known as The Horse Farm – the equestrian center of the Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute. After much hard work and advocacy from many supporters, construction to turn the land into a world-class park started in 2018 with the second wave of construction of the other half of the 125-acre property commencing in 2021. Named after a hefty donation from philanthropist James Moncus, the park's operations are fully funded by donors and local organizations making it a community park in every sense of the word. Guests to the park can enjoy walking the park's 1-mile loop trail, spend time relaxing at the Cajun Prairie, exploring the Ravine Gardens, or soaking up some sun at the many grand lawns. The park is also home to a fishing pier, a hammock grove, a treehouse, a water playground, and a veterans memorial.
