A beautiful and vibrant symbol of Lafayette is definitely that abundance of azaleas that line the city's streets. With a variety of colors from reds, whites, purples, pinks, and a lovely hue of salmon, the azaleas wind down 20 miles of the city's streets, with some of the more substantial bushes having been thriving for over 50 years. Because of the beauty of these flowers and the way they wind in and out of the city, the Azalea Trail was born and remains to be one of the best walking tours to take in Lafayette. The trail will guest to many of Lafayette's most popular attractions like the Mouton Plantation, the Girard Park, the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, and the Heymann Performing Arts Center. For those who wish to walk the Azalea Trail, the ideal starting point is the Lafayette Visitor's Center which also offers maps and more information about the landmarks along the trail.
