I find it special that beyond the red-tiled rooftops and ocean views, Santa Barbara’s parks are full of wonder. I love how this coastal town blends beachy charm, botanical beauty, and kid-friendly adventures in every season. I look forward to days that start with sandy toes and end with golden light over the mountains.
To me, Santa Barbara parks mean digging in the sand and splashing at Shoreline Park, hiking fragrant trails through Elings Park, and exploring secret paths and koi ponds at Alice Keck Park Memorial Garden. We always bring bikes to Chase Palm Park, where palm trees, fountains, and a whimsical playground sit just steps from the beach. Douglas Family Preserve is perfect for spotting paragliders and running along coastal bluffs, while Franceschi Park offers panoramic views and picnic-perfect spots high above the city. Whether we’re tidepooling, spotting butterflies, or climbing giant fig roots at Kids World in Alameda Park, Santa Barbara’s parks invite families to slow down and enjoy nature’s beauty with a coastal breeze and a big smile.

Hale Park is one of Santa Barbara's most picturesque public park facilities, named in honor of Kathleen Hale, the widow of Frederick Forrest Peabody. The park's land area, which sits at the city boundary between Santa Barbara and Montecito, was donated to the City of Santa Barbara in 1954 and has been developed into a 13-acre open space park framed by the backdrop of the Montecito foothills. The rustic neighborhood park showcases growth of tall eucalyptus and oak trees and offers opportunities for walking with four-legged friends off leash along its trails and open spaces. A small creek runs through the center of the park, crossing its meandering and looping trail areas. Day-use picnic areas are available for relaxation throughout the year.
