Kilovolt Coffee is one of the newer coffee shops in the Dogtown neighborhood of West Oakland, an area of the city that many locals believe is craving more drinks and food destinations. The coffee shop was co-founded by Ethan Ashley, who has a background of home remodeling and is a self-trained electrician. He opened Kilovolt Coffee after not being able to find a decent cup of coffee after moving to the area in 2008. Ashley trained to be a barista at SIghtglass Coffee, and his coffee shop now serves Sightglass coffee blends, as well as a variety of food from local businesses.
