Review:
Fort Funston Beach is best known as a destination for hang gliders, but it's also a wonderful off-leash dog beach despite the fact that the area is often quite windy. Visitors and their dogs are discouraged from swimming as the currents can be extremely strong, but there are plenty of excellent hiking trails to enjoy, including some that lead up to the top of the sandy 200-foot bluffs that border the beach. Dogs are permitted on the trails as long as they're under the control of their owners, but pet owners should be aware that horses are sometimes seen on the trails.
