Set on the campus of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, the Yale University Art Gallery is the oldest university art museum in the western hemisphere and features a significant collection of art across all cultures and periods. Founded by patriot-artist John Turnbull in 1832, the Yale University Art Gallery’s collection is housed in several buildings around the campus and includes more than 200,000 objects ranging in date from ancient times to the present day. The permanent collection comprises African art, American decorative arts, American paintings and sculpture, ancient art from Egypt, Greece, Rome, Etruria, and the Near East, art of the ancient Americas, Asian art, and early European art.
