The History of the Warren Store
The building that now houses the Warren Store was constructed way back in 1839. It was originally used as a stagecoach inn and boarding house, and swiftly developed into a lively hub for the little town of Warren. Many locals and travelers passing through the area would gather here, exchanging ideas, enjoying good food, making new friends, and having good times. It was a warm and happy place where people could feel totally at ease, and it was unsurprising that many locals even preferred to hang out at the inn than at their own homes. That same joyful spirit and sense of togetherness was preserved over the years, with the building going on to be used as a library, post office, and hardware store.
Then, in 1970, Carol Lippincott decided to buy up that hardware store and turn it into something new. Her idea was to create a country store with a difference; it wouldn't just be a store, focused on selling items and serving the local community, it would be a gathering place, a second home, a place where people could come and be sure of a warm welcome and some tasty food, as well as all the goods and items they could possibly need. Her idea was brought to life in the form of the Warren Store, which is now the heart of this picturesque town and a perfect little embodiment of the warm, good-natured, laid-back, family-focused attitude that has come to define the state of Vermont and the surrounding New England region as a whole.
