Many major cities all around the United States have one or more major airports. Cincinnati, OH is an interesting example due to the fact that its main airport isn't actually located in the same state! The airport code CVG is used for Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, which is technically in Kentucky but is the main airport for Cincinnati, home to many landmarks and locations like the Newport Aquarium, Cincinnati Zoo, Botanical Gardens, Museum Center, and more.

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, airport code CVG, has a history dating back many decades. The first plans for the airport were laid out in 1942, when President Franklin Roosevelt approved funding for an airport in the Greater Cincinnati area. This airport was initially meant to be used for military reasons, with commercial flights in and out of the Cincinnati area using the local Lunken Airport, which is still in operation but only serves private aircraft nowadays. The new airfield for Cincinnati opened up in 1944 and was used for bombing practice runs and other military purposes, but it was only used for a year and then the war ended.

At that time, the airport was handed over to the local authorities to be developed into a commercial airport for Cincinnati and the northern cities of Kentucky. The first commercial flight landed at CVG airport in 1947. In the 1950s, seeing that CVG airport had more space and potential for expansion, the authorities decided to push for development in order to allow CVG to replace Lunken Airport as the main airport for Cincinnati. Through the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, plenty of development and expansion occurred at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, which has grown into one of the fastest-growing airports in the United States and is one of the biggest cargo airports in the country too.
