Although it has been revamped and renovated multiple times since then, Star Plunge has been regularly rated as the top destination in the town of Thermopolis in the shadow of Monument Hill. The hot springs are also known for being sacred to the local Shoshone Native American people for their therapeutic properties. They were one of the draws that brought white immigrants to the area and can be traced back to 1826 in historical letters written by Daniel Potts. Star Plunge is located on the eastern side of the Bighorn River.
