The beautiful new St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Cedar Park, Texas, has a long history. The mission church of St. Margaret Mary was originally founded in 1942 in Leander, Texas to serve the small group of Catholics living in the Cedar Park, Leander, Liberty Hill and Jollyville areas. The people were so eager to have a church, they built a church sanctuary by themselves at Hwy 183 in Leander. In 1982 St. Margaret Mary finally became a parish and in 1993 the new church was completed, a Multi-Use Building and a Religious Education Building. The first Mass was celebrated in January 8, 1994. As the parish continued to grow, it became necessary to move to new, bigger facilities. The new church was completed in 2003, a 26,351 square-foot structure that can seat 1,300. The Day Chapel seats 70. There is also a separate Eucharistic Chapel for private prayer and devotions. The bell from the humble little church in Leander was moved to the bell tower in the courtyard of the new church.
