The Dyer Observatory is owned and managed by Vanderbilt University and is tucked away atop one of the Nashville area’s tallest peaks. Both students attending the university and the general public are welcome to visit the observatory to discover the wonders of space exploration and astronomy. Named after Arthur Dyer, the Dyer Observatory was constructed in 1953 with a dome that measures 24 feet wide and houses a reflecting telescope named after the astronomer Carl Seyfert. The observatory today is primarily used as a tool for teaching and to get children interested in the fields of engineering and science.

The Brentwood Library provides access to over 350,000 books and a variety of other materials, such as music CDs, DVDs, ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, and newspapers. There is also a large space for community events and local clubs to meet. The Children’s Room at the Brentwood Library is a tree-lined room featuring collection display cases, books for kids of all ages, and a fire engine reading area. For older readers, the Reading Room offers comfortable seating behind stained-glass panels and newspapers and magazines from throughout the world. Visitors can also browse the array of art on display throughout the library.

First opening its doors to the Nashville community in August of 1990, the Las Palmas Mexican Restaurante passed out flyers and gave people free soda and tacos to get them through the doors.
