Established in 1977, Newport Vineyards overlooks the Rhode Island Sound from its location on top of a hill. The goal of the vineyards is to produce fine wines, as well as preserve the agricultural land from continuous rapid development. Some of the most desirable land for farming in the United States, if not possibly the world, can be found on Aquidneck Island. This perfect micro-climate is the result of the combination of Narragansett Bay's moderating effects and the Gulf Stream's warm waters. These conditions offer a cool, long growing season that's ideal for producing complex flavors in the wines. Since its beginnings, Newport Vineyards has expanded to sixty acres of vineyard under the ownership of Paul and John Nunes.
