Located in the E.B. Jeffress Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Cascades Falls (aka the cascades) is a popular hiking destination. The falls are accessed via a scenic 0.8 mile loop trail which is considered easy/moderate and suitable for most reasonably fit hikers. Along the way you can admire various marked trees and other plants. The trail descends about 50 feet to bring you to the upper lookout spot which offers views of about 20 feet of the upper cascade. If you feel up to it you can continue to the lower lookout spot 200 feet further down for a completely different view. Of course, what goes down must come back up and hikers will need to climb back up to the car-park. There are several spots to stop and relax along the way.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is a beautiful Gothic structure which was built in 1849 from donations received from Wilkesboro residents. After many years of service to the community, part of the church was destroyed by a wind storm in 1928. Once again the local residents stepped in and managed to raise the funds to repair this local landmark. The church was included in the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 and still operates as a place of worship. The grounds of the church are filled with old tombstones marking the final resting places of generations of congregants. Visitors are very welcome to attend services or to come and admire the beautiful old church and its grounds.
