Pinehurst is first and foremost the home of American Golf. Pinehurst Resort was home to the first golf course in America, built in 1878 and today there are 40 golf courses within a 15 mile radius of the village, including the legendary No 2 Course at Pinehurst Resort. In addition to golf and equestrian activities, the village offers a wide variety of fun for the whole family. There are three outdoor parks, a disc golf course, many miles of greenway trails for hikers and fun kiddies activities like the Camelot Playground and a splash pad. Lake Pinehurst and Reservoir Park offer a variety of water sports and fishing. Seagrove, the home of American pottery and ceramics is located just 35 miles from Pinehurst. Certain attractions may be temporarily closed or require advance reservations. Some restaurants are currently offering pickup only. Hours/availability may have changed.

One of the oldest equine sports facilities in the state, Pinehurst Harness Track has been a winter training center for Standard bred race horses since 1915. Surrounded by a beautifully manicured golf course, the facility has two tracks, stables and everything else required for over-winter boarding. Visitors are welcome to come to the track early in the morning to watch the resident horses being put through their paces. After watching the morning gallops you can retire to the on-site restaurant for a hearty North Carolina breakfast – their blueberry pancakes are legendary. The track hosts regular races and events during the year and there is an on-site tack shop where equestrians can get kitted out.
