Located in Carteret County on North Carolina’s exquisite Crystal Coast, Morehead City attracts large numbers of vacationers. However, although the beaches and the water sport opportunities may be the main draw-card, Morehead City has many other popular attractions and activities for visitors. You can get your bearings by taking a walk along the Morehead City Waterfront, which is always buzzing with maritime traffic. You can learn about the city’s history at the History Museum of Carteret County, take a boat trip to Sugar Loaf Island or enjoy a walk along Calico Creek Boardwalk. The city is also home to many interesting boutiques, galleries and restaurants. Hours/availability may have changed.

Carteret County has been proud to boast its own amateur theatre group since 1953. Over a period of 68 years the group has produced no fewer than 200 major productions for Crystal Coast locals and visitors to enjoy. The group produces a wide range of entertainment including everything from comedy to tragedy, but in recent years they have been more focused on popular musicals and children’s theatre. Tragically, their home venue in Arendell Street was seriously damaged during Hurricane Florence, and all planned shows have had to be put on hold until the necessary funding is available to rebuild the venue. In the meantime, the theatre group continues to offer exciting summer theatre camps for budding young artists.

The library runs several community programs including talks and workshops for adults and teenagers.
