John M. Belk Arena is the premiere 5,295-seat multipurpose arena on the campus of Davidson College, named in honor of collegiate alumni and benefactor John M. Belk. The arena serves as the primary home of the Davidson Wildcats' mens and womens basketball teams, wrestling team, and women's volleyball team, hosting home games throughout the year during the regular NCAA and Southern Conference seasons. It was opened in 1989 and showcases two hardwood basketball courts and two hardwood volleyball courts, which offer bleacher-style seating for attendees. Davidson Community Players are Davidson's premiere community theater performance group, founded in 1965 by local drama teacher and director Constance Welsh, who banded together local community theater performers and collegiate theater students to produce an original work written by her husband, Wilmer Welsh. Today, the troupe produces five plays each season and strives to engage the North Carolina community with the dramatic arts. Performances are regularly held at the Armour Street Theater, the company's permanent home, and several venues on the campus of Davidson College. Three full children's theater productions are produced each year under the Connie's Company series, along with two teen summer stock productions. Youth classes and workshops offer a chance for theatrical arts education for area children and teens throughout the year.
