Ridgewood is an historical village which has been settled since 1700, when the first house was built there by Johannes van Emburgh. Today Ridgewood is considered to be a very pleasant place to live, offering good facilities and a number of interesting attractions just one hour north of NYC. There is a well-preserved historic downtown to explore and visitors can learn about early Ridgewood history at the School House Museum before moving on to admire the remarkable forward-thinking of landscape architect James Rose at the James Rose Center. You can go walking/hiking at the Saddle River County Park, which also boasts a dog park and children’s playground. A visit to Little Skye will ensure your children are dressed in the latest trendy clothes. CDC information for travelers. Hours/availability may have changed.

Anyone who enjoys landscape and design will really appreciate a visit to the James Rose Center. James Rose was a modernist American landscape architect who was famous for his innovative landscape designs in the 60’s. His home and its surroundings have been described as one of the 20th centuries’ most important landscapes. His home changed with the times and underwent several “metamorphoses” during his lifetime. After his death in 1991 the home was fully renovated and restored and became a center for architecture and landscape design. The center is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, from May to October each year and there are regular special events.
