Paulsdale was the childhood home of prominent Woman’s Suffrage Movement leader Alice Paul (1885-1977), and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1991. The home was originally built in 1840 and has painstakingly been restored to its original condition during Ms Paul’s childhood. Today the home is operated as a museum to Ms. Paul and the Women’s Suffrage Movement and is also home to the Alice Paul Institute. Visitors are invited to take a self-guided tour of the grounds and farm, assisted by an audio guide and to embark on an educational Scavenger Hunt. Guided tours of the interior of the historic home have been temporarily suspended due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Jacobs Chapel Colemantown Foundation and the Jacob’s Chapel cemetery are interesting historic attractions in Mount Laurel. The Chapel (constructed in 1865) and the Colemantown Meeting House were common places of refuge for runaway slaves on the Underground Railroad, and are today all that remain of the free black community of Colemantown. The Jacobs Chapel Cemetery became the final resting place for hundreds of displaced African Americans and for members of the black regiments during the Civil War. The Colemantown Meeting House was the first black church and also the first all-black school house in New Jersey. The foundation offers Underground Railway tours and re-enactments to interested groups and to schools.
