Review & Frequenly Asked Questions:

The 75-acre Ponemah Bog Wildlife Sanctuary near Amherst, New Hampshire, has been protected by the Audubon Society of New Hampshire since 1979. The Sanctuary includes a three-acre pond surrounded by a floating sphagnum moss mat and by upland oak-pine woods. This bog has preserved, in its thick peat layers, pollen blown from the surrounding woods for thousands of years. The bog is home to hardy northern plants like spruce, as well as southern species including pitcher plants and sundew. Ponemah is also home to white pine, pitch pine, black spruce, and tamarack, a living museum of plants from distant environments and a fascinating outdoor classroom for botany and ecology of wetlands. There is a narrow boardwalk with spur trails to four viewing platforms.
