The city of Burton, Michigan is a suburb of Flint in Genesee County, once home to trappers and Native Americans many years ago. The original settlers of the town came from the New York towns of Henderson and Adams and the area was known as the Atherton settlement for around twenty years. Burton, and the surrounding Genesee County, today offers several things to do, ranging from shopping at the Courtland Center Mall to dining at Tia Helita's to hands-on history and science exhibits at the Sloan Museum. The Sloan Museum focuses on Genesee County’s local history and the area of Flint, Michigan, especially concerning its connection with the local auto industry’s rise and fall. The diverse collection of the museum consists of more than 400,000 artifacts associated with the history of Flint and the surrounding Genesee County. The Sloan Museum features a play area for young children, more than thirty historic vehicles from Genesee County and Flint history, and a wide variety of hands-on history and science exhibits. It also operates the Longway Planetarium. Admission to the museum is free for residents of Genesee County.

2.Courtland Center Mall, Burton, Michigan

Formerly known as the Eastland Mall, the Courtland Center Mall is a shopping mall in the suburb city of Burton. Originally opened back in 1968, the mall is anchored by the Jo-Ann Superstore, Stapes, Dunham’s Sports, and a redesigned JCPenney. Among the more than sixty stores and dining locations, the Courtland Center includes Bath & Body Works, Kay Jewelers, GNC, Planet Fitness, Payless ShoeSource, The Pretzel Peddler, El Cozumel Mexican Grill, and the City Shop Cafe. There is also a movie theater and a space operated by the Sloan Museum that includes a play area and numerous hands-on exhibits.
