Apples are grown all around the United States, with hundreds of millions of bushels being produced each and every year in major apple producing states like New York, Ohio, and California. These apples are then sold and shipped all around the country, being used in a million different ways in countless American kitchens. Everyone has their own favorite apple recipes, with some preferring apple cakes and pies, while others favor apple sauces and the inclusion of apples in their savory dishes. Apples can also be made into great tasting wines and ciders, as well as being crushed for juice or simply bitten into at any time of day as a healthy, vitamin-packed snack for people of all ages. With Americans having such a lifelong love affair with apples, it's only natural that apple picking is one of the nation's most beloved, traditional activities. From generation to generation, people love heading down to the local orchard or farm and spending some time walking among the row upon row of apple trees, plucking the ripest, freshest, crispest apples straight from the tree and placing them in bags and boxes to take back home and enjoy. Apple picking is especially popular up in New England, where the soil composition and climate are just right for the growth of dozens of different apple varieties. Nowhere is this more evident than in Maine, which is one of the top apple growing states in the New England region.

Hundreds of different varieties of apples have been grown in Maine over the years, with the likes of McIntoush, Macoun, Cortlan, Jersey Mac, Jonagold, Empire, Gala, Gingergold, Honeycrisp, Northern Spy, Black Oxford, Brock, and Lady Apple being among the most popular. The apple picking season in Maine runs all through the fall, letting you and your family or friends head down to a nearby orchard and load up on these delicious natural treats for yourself. See below for contact info and detailed overviews on some of the best apple orchards and apple picking locations in Maine.
