While SENZA itself does not have a golf course, there are three eighteen-hole golf clubs within easy reach of the hotel. Eagle Vines has a championship course set on one hundred-and-seventy-three acres. Chardonnay has an equally extensive facility that features many lakes and creek crossings.
Numerous practice facilities including a putting green, chipping green, and driving range make up the scenic Napa Golf Course. Eagle Vines, Chardonnay, and Napa Golf Course are all situated a short distance to the south of Napa. Vintner’s Golf Club, located in the neighboring town of Yountville, has a nine-hole course and features three different sets of tees.
Kathryn and Craig Hall, the owners of SENZA, have two brands of wine, and their HALL label is produced in Napa Valley. SENZA guests can visit HALL winery tasting rooms in nearby St. Helena and Rutherford to take part in tours and tastings and to try seasonal food. HALL’s wineries are also home to an extensive collection of contemporary art.
Private experiences can be arranged in advance and could provide an apt diversion for couples or groups looking to immerse themselves in wine country living. There are numerous local vineyards to visit in the area, and in addition to HALL, recommended wineries include Darioush, Silver Oak Cellars, Trefethen Family Vineyard, and Inglenook.
For visitors seeking diversions aside from the wineries, interesting tours are also available at Marshall’s Farm Natural Honey, Round Pond Olive Mill, St. Helena Olive Oil Company, and Napa Valley Soap Company. The Petrified Forest is a fantastic place to go hiking if you are looking for outdoor excitement. For those interested in the trees, rare wildflowers, volcanic activity, and petrification of the forest, fascinating “Meadow Walks” are available, led by naturalist David Storck. The ninety-minute walk is rated moderate and takes place every Saturday and Sunday morning, and by appointment on other days. An extended tour takes visitors through groves of coastal redwoods and tan oaks and also has a moderate rating.
Safari West, a nearby attraction is filled with exotic animals and is perfect for a day-trip. Riding and walking safaris are available where visitors can see herds of giraffes, zebras, buffalo, and wildebeests, and many more of the numerous species inhabiting the park. The driving safari lasts for two-and-a-half hours and traverses rugged terrain, while attractions on the walk include an open-air aviary, primates, “Lemur Island,” and three African cat species.
Rooms start at $209 per night; suites from $296. Guests receive a complimentary breakfast, as well as an evening wine & cheese reception.
