The small town of Glasgow, Kentucky in the south-central region of the state may not seem like much, but it still offers its own unique assortment of things to do. Situated in the middle of the state’s “cave country,” Glasgow provides other attractions for visitors to enjoy after they’ve had their fill of the region’s cave tourism. This small town full of hospitality hosts a Scottish sporting event every year. It’s also home to the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center, where visitors can learn about the region’s history, as well as entertainment at the historic Plaza Theatre. The South Central Kentucky Cultural Center in Glasgow shares the history of the events, places, and people that make up this area of Kentucky often called “the Barrens,” which includes the counties of Barren, Monroe, Hart, Allen, and Metcalfe. The 30,000-square-foot center features three floors of quality exhibits for visitor explore. On the first floor, guests will find a variety of artifacts representing the south central region from around 12,000 BC through Kentucky’s frontier days, such as Native American objects, knives, and bone and stone tools from various historic eras. A military collection is located on the second floor.

The Peninsula Marina is situated approximately two miles away from the Barren River Dame, along the shoreline of the scenic Barren River Lake. The marina features unleaded gas pumps, women’s bathrooms, men’s bathrooms, and a store with extensive offerings, such as boat rentals, cold drinks, ice, supplies, and bait. Formerly known as Sawyer Landing, Marty and Tim Craycroft purchased the marina in 2004, changing its name to the Peninsula Marina. In 2019, the Rubrights bought the Peninsula Marina at Barren River Lake and aim to provide the best service and marina available. The full-service marina offers more than 275 boat slips.
