Crawfordsville is an interesting town to visit, especially if you are interested in all things old and interesting. The city has a well-preserved Historic Center where you can take a step back in time as you visit historic buildings like the General Lew Wallace Study and Museum and the Lane Place, both of which are full of Lincoln-era history. The city is also home to the Rotary Jail Museum and Tannenbaum Cultural Center and the Carnegie Museum of Montgomery County history. On a lighter note, there are some amazing antique malls to visit (including Cabbages and Kings and La Rose on Main Street) and several arty galleries to explore. CDC information for travelers. The General Lew Wallace Study and Museum is located in Crawfordsville’s Elston Grove Historic District. The museum was formerly known as the Ben Hur Museum and honors the life and history of Lew Wallace, famously the author of the 1880 book “Ben Hur – A Story of the Christ”. The museum is located in the former study of General Lewis and in the carriage house of his former home. The impressive building was designed by General Wallace himself, using elements of Greek revival and Romanesque styles. For a small fee, visitors can join a guided tour of the study, while the Carriage House Interpretive Center and the grounds of the museum are free to visit.

Dari-licious started off in the 1960’s as the first drive-through food and ice-cream outlet in Montgomery County. Fast forward to the 1980’s and Dari-licious re-invents itself as Turtle Park, offering a popular community meeting place with a picnic area, children’s playground and, of course, delicious ice creams and sandwiches. When you visit today you will find a long and tempting menu of old-style favorites including their signature Coney (a roll filled with delicious savory minced meat). However, ice-cream has always been at the heart of Dari-licious and today you can still choose from a long list of ice-creams, sundaes, parfaits and milkshakes all of which turn an everyday outing into a special treat.
