Located on the Bourbon Trail in Kentucky, A Storybook Inn is a historical inn built in the 1830's. The property is a haven of rest and quiet with elegant decor which strives to capture the historical elegance.
The house has been a mainstay in Versailles since its inception. Originally a gingerbread Victorian, this two story location was once the home of merchant and bank founder, John Amsden Sr. This is the perfect stopover for anyone coming to enjoy the stunning Bluegrass landscape. 1.Rooms & Suites
There are four suites all as elegant and memorable as the movies whose name they bear. The My Fair Lady is a stunning vision in white, with airy decorations and garden views. This room contains a king sized four-poster bed, desk, armoire, and a private bath. The bathroom is a treat in and of itself, with a whirlpool and luxurious aromatherapy shower. Guests can lounge by the fireplace while gazing out the window at the delightful tiered waterfall and gardens.
The Casablanca Suite boasts a hand-carved European-style bed and an ambiance which hearkens a Moroccan escape. This suite contains a whimsical decor with a jungle theme and a Casablanca poster. The private bath contains a wirlpool, aromatherapy, and provided luxurious towels. There is a fireplace, sofa, and walk in closet.
The Gone With the Wind Suite is a roomy space capturing the elegance of the old south. This carpeted bedroom contains a sitting area with a fireplace, and an oil paining featuring Vivian Leigh. The bath contains a two person shower and towel warmer for a truly unique experience. The views include the elegant green grounds, and fresh flowers are included in the service.
Finally the Somewhere In Time is the newest suite available to guests. This elegant choice was once the owner's suite and is the roomiest suite on the property. Guests can indulge in a two person whirlpool with aromatherapy. There is also a separate toilet area. The main room includes a king sized bed, and the curtains tie the room together with swags and jabots. The room contains a commissioned oil painting featuring Chrisopther Reeve and Jane Seymor in a romantic scene reminiscent of the movie for which the room is named.

The new Guesthouse is yet another option for long term or larger families. This space is a separate home-like setting with a spacious patio perfect for grilling out. The Huntsman Chase guesthouse has 3 and 1/2 bedrooms, and 3 1/2 baths. The front porch is a southern oasis where guests can sip a tall glass of sweet tea while relaxing in one of the rocking chairs. There is a greatroom with a fireplace. Families can watch the Thanksgiving parade on the large screen television while scents of roasting turkey wafts in from the adjoining full kitchen. The Guesthouse is great as a getaway, for those headed to nearby Keeneland, or as a writers retreat, for example, any time of year.
Room amenities include bubble massage whirlpools in each suite with walk-in showers available with grip-bars, robes, hair dryers, iron. Toiletries are high-end custom made from natural ingredients. All suites include a mini-fridge.
On-site amenities include access to the library including magazines and a variety of classic movies, free wi-fi in the main areas, housekeeping, access to private massage, filtered water in all rooms as well as cooking and preparation. Guests can enjoy a complementary snack, dessert or cheese tray based upon what is provided. Fresh flowers are placed daily in the main room. Those who enjoy spending time outdoors can enjoy the company of Summer and Boots, the roaming kitties, and of Lily, the dog who can be spotted in the office or out on her daily walk.
The meal served at A Storybook Inn is just as memorable as the rooms. The meals are prepared with a focus on health and pure ingredients. The staff is ready to accommodate any allergen sensitivity and gluten-free options are also available. With fresh coffee and a large breakfast many guests enjoy the "Suprise us" option, allowing the kitchen to prepare a special treat. Coffee is fresh and the maple syrup is real.
Guests can indulge in Eggs Benedict served with garlic potatoes and asparagus, served with homemade Hollandaisse sauce, or they can treat themselves with the Queen's Crown, a breakfast delight of Amaretto French Toast, with banana, whipped cream, syrup and fresh fruit. Ingredients are all natural and meals are made from scratch.
4.Plan This Vacation
A Storybook Inn is centrally located to a variety of area events. There is a great selection of local horse farms and the staff will be happy to assist in finding a private or guided tour. Lexington, the horse capital of the world and home to Keeneland is a quick drive. Lexington also has a great downtown area and a variety of historical locales.
Midway, only a twelve minute drive, is a quaint town with plenty of antiques and shops. Visitors can dine at the Inn recommended Heirloom, or visit the strip of boutiques. The chef at Holly Hill Inn is the recipient of the James Beard award, and features a delicious seasonal menu. Midway is a favorite stopover and a can't-miss while visiting the region.
Lexington is also a dining favorite with a number of high-end restaurants catered for the horse lovers. Dudley's is a locally famous dining experience, with an atmopshere for fine dining, a cozy bar, and a rooftop outdoor patio, with a garden designed by horticulturist Jon Carloftis. Wine lovers can enjoy the Jean Farris Winery and Bistro, or stop at the Wines on Vine, located just off downtown on Old Vine Street. This local features lighter fare such as the popular Mediterranean Pasta.
