Hawaii is one of the most desirable vacation destinations in the world. A place quite unlike any other, the islands of the Aloha State provide some of the best snorkeling, sunbathing, and relaxation opportunities anywhere in the United States. As well as soft sands and warm waters, Hawaii is also known for tropical jungles, impressive volcanoes, and wonderful waterfalls, as well as big city locations like Honolulu.

Many visitors to Hawaii tend to fly into Honolulu, the capital of the state and home of Hawaii’s biggest and busiest airport. Honolulu is a great place to explore, home of some fun family attractions and world class beaches like Waikiki. It’s also a good location for people wishing to meet lots of friendly locals, taste some classic Hawaiian cuisine, and experience a rich slice of island life.

However, if you want to make the most of your Hawaii vacation, you can organize day trips to other islands in order to see what life is like beyond Honolulu and the island of Oahu. Many different day trips are possible from Oahu, and one of the top options will take you over to the island of Maui.

There, you'll be able to explore Haleakala National Park, climbing all the way up to the crater of Haleakala, as well as admiring some stunning scenery along the Hana Highway and out in the jungle. Maui is also home to around 30 miles of luxurious beaches and some super towns like Kahului and Kihei too. Read on to learn how to plan the perfect day trip from Oahu to Maui.

One of the best things about visiting Hawaii is that it’s actually quite easy to do island hopping. The transportation links connecting the main islands are very reliable, with lots of flights crossing over from one island to another each and every day, as well as plenty of boats offering speedy service between Aloha State locations too.

For the purposes of a Maui day trip, you’ll probably want to travel by air in order to keep your travel time low and get plenty of time to explore the island. Here are some of the different flight options you can choose from on your Oahu to Maui day trip:

- Commercial Flights from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport - The main airport in Hawaii, Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, also known as Honolulu International Airport, offers direct flights over to Maui with several commercial airlines. This airport is easy to access and highly convenient for most travelers on Oahu. It offers flights to all the Hawaiian islands. Flights land on Maui at Kahului Airport, which is considered to be the main airport for the island of Maui and offers car rentals and other useful services.

- Commuter Flights - You can also choose to book a spot on a commuter flight. You'll have to pay a little extra for these kinds of flights, but they'll save you a lot of time as you don't even need to pass through TSA checkpoints. Plus, you get the benefit of better views out of the windows as the planes fly at lower altitudes in general. Commuter flights land at three different locations around Maui: Hana, Kahului, and Kapalua. This gives you the freedom to choose where you want to land, depending on the activities you want to do and places you want to see.

- Air Taxis - Hawaii is also served by several air taxi companies. Again, the prices for the services of these taxis can vary and can sometimes be quite high, but they’ll get you where you need to be very quickly. Plus, like the commuter flights, these taxis are able to land at multiple locations around Maui, so you can have a little more freedom when planning out your day trip itinerary.

3.Important Information and Things to Do on Maui

- Don’t Go Too Far - It’s important to remember that if you’re planning a day trip to Maui, you won’t necessarily be able to see all the sights you want to see. One of the top things to do on Maui, for example, is driving along the Hana Highway, but this is quite far from the main airport for commercial flights, so it probably won’t be possible for your day trip. Instead of stretching yourself too far, it makes sense to stay relatively close to the airport. There are plenty of beautiful beaches in the area all around Kahului, as well as some great restaurants, bars, and more.

- Best Time to Visit - The Hawaiian islands are at their busiest in the summer months of June, July, and August. This is when the weather is warmest and sunniest. Plus, there are some fun celebrations happening on Maui in summer like the Kapalua Wine & Food Festival and the Maui Film Festival. However, if you visit just outside of summer, in April, May, September, or October, you can get the benefits of high temperatures and sunshine, without having to deal with the crowds. The East Maui Taro Festival happens in April, and there's a Hawaii Food and Wine Festival in October too.

- Getting Around - If you fly into Kahului Airport, you can rent a car from several different providers, and this is easily the best way to get around the island of Maui. Having your own car gives you a lot of freedom and flexibility, allowing you and your fellow travelers to head off on the roads of the island and see whatever you want to see. Otherwise, you can rely on taxis and buses to get around.

- Things to Do on Maui - There's plenty to do on Maui, but if you're only going for a day, the best option is to head to Haleakala National Park. This is what Maui is most famous for, and it's filled with breathtaking scenery and amazing hiking trails, as well as lots of wildlife to see along the way. You can climb all the way up the Haleakala volcano too. Other fun things to do on Maui include snorkeling at Molokini, visiting beautiful beaches like Kaanapali, and admiring the amazing natural beauty of the Iao Valley.
