Driving to Segovia from Madrid may be the best option for many people as it will give you the freedom to be able to make your own day plan schedule, choosing when you leave Madrid, which route you take to get to Segovia, and when you head back in the evening. The train is often the fastest way to get anywhere in Spain, especially when traveling from one city to another. The country is well-known for its super high speed train services connecting to Madrid to Barcelona, and there's another high speed train to Segovia too. The journey only takes 30 minutes in total, so it's by far the fastest way to get to Segovia from Madrid, and if you book your tickets in advance, you won't pay too much for the privilege either.

Trains leave from Chamartin station in Madrid on an hourly basis and arrive at Guiomar in Segovia, which is actually a bit of a distance away from the city center and historic buildings, so you might need to get a taxi when you arrive in order to start seeing the sights for your Segovia day trip. You can also catch the number 8 bus to get into the center of Segovia from the station.

You can also hop on the city's buses, with the number 9 doing a loop around the historic center and the aforementioned number 8 going to the train station.
